Ten (10) Must Haves In Your Grocery Cart!

Ready and willing to take that step towards a healthy and fit lifestyle? But confused and not sure where to start? There are foods out there that have been clinically proven to provide us with nutrients and anti oxidants to helps us fight off and or deal with sickness, diseases and infections.

These foods are a must have when grocery shopping and should always be in your shopping cart! Buy organic whenever possible..DONT leave the grocery store without them!

1.Berries (strawberries,blueberries,raspberries etc..):
My favorite fruit to add to my shakes and smoothies. They are bright and colorful and are packed with antioxidants that fight free radicals that cause aging and cancer. Berries are one of those fruits that are extremely good for you and they are loaded with fiber and Vitamin C which is needed for and boost your immune system function, and also for strong connective tissues.

2. Dark Green Leafy Vegetables:
I cant live without it! I eat Dark green leafy vegetables ( spinach, kale, romaine lettuce, swiss chard, mustard greens ) etc..every single day. I add it to almost anything I cook. They are great for you and is known for reducing your risk of cancer, diabetes and heart disease. They are low in fat, high in fiber, rich in folic acid, vitamin C, E, B and K, plus potassium and magnesium.

3. Raw/Unsalted Almonds, Walnuts:
Almonds are loaded with vitamin E, B2 (riboflavin), iron, magnesium and potassium . They are also high in fiber and great for people that suffer form constipation. Almonds are also great for lowering your risk of diabetes, prevention of cancer, regulates blood pressure, boosts your energy and beneficial for weight loss as well as good for your skin, hair and teeth.
Walnuts are loaded with anti oxidants and a great source of protein, vitamin E, high in fiber and omega 3 fatty acids. It’s one of the best for reducing heart disease and lowering bad cholesterol. Both almonds and walnuts make great snacks. Just a handful a day will be beneficial.

4. Avocados:
Most people shy away from eating avocados cause they think it’s high in fat and cholesterol but contrary to what is said out there avocados are great for you to eat. They are rich in vitamin K, C, B6, folic acid, fiber and potassium.
Avocado can help guard against circulatory diseases, like high blood pressure, heart disease, or stroke. So don’t shy away from Avocados..eat up and enjoy

5. Sweet Peppers:
I love cooking with sweet peppers, they are soo colorful and nutritious and delicious. I add it to my salads, eggs, and sometimes my stew. They are loaded with Vitamin C and rich in vitamins A and K which helps strengthens your bones, prevent cell damage, cancer, promotes blood clotting and support the immune system. And they are also shown to be protective against cataracts and reduce your risk of heart attacks and strokes.

6. Whole Grains ( breads, pasta, quinoa, oats, rice etc..)
Some of my favorite brands for whole grains are kashi, fiber one and quaker oats. Whole grains are much better and healthier to eat than refined grains. They have been known to help prevent many chronic diseases.
They have been known to help reduce strokes, heart disease, type 2 diabetes, and also help with weight management.

7. Ginger:
I incorporate Ginger into my daily food regime mostly as a drink (tea). Ginger is a great source of vitamin C, B6, magnesium and potassium. Ginger is beneficial for nausea and inflammation, dizziness, morning sickness, chronic pain, allergies and the common cold.

8. Garlic:
Cooking with garlic, using it in your seasoning of food or even drinking it as a tea is very beneficial in many different ways. Garlic has been shown to decrease blood pressure, strengthen the immune system fighting off bacteria, common colds and stomach problems/menstrual cramps. Garlic promotes the well-being of the heart with antioxidant properties and helps maintain healthy blood circulation.

9. Greek Yogurt:
One of my favorite brands of Greek yogurt to have is Chobani. It’s so think and creamy and delicious. It’s great to add to your shakes, dips, dressings for salads etc.. It’s low in sodium and carbs and high in protein and calcium.
Greek yogurt promotes intestinal and vaginal health. It helps with builds stronger bones, lowers blood pressure, and may even have anticancer and weight-loss effects, which is always a plus.

10. Tomatoes:
Tomatoes in my salads, soups, stews, omlettes, in almost anything fresh tomatoes are delicious. Tomatoes has Lycopene in it which is a vital anti-oxidant that helps in the fight against cancerous cell formation. They are high in vitamin C and A.
Studies show that tomatoes help with promoting good prostate and colon health.

Work the outside isles of a grocery store and you’ll find all these ingredients. The benefits are great and in the long run your body will thank you.
